Do Skinny Wives Make for Happier Marriages?

I’ve never been married… There’s no way!  Could this really be true?

Does a thin wife make for a happy marriage? A new study shows that marital satisfaction is higher for husbands when their wives are skinnier than they are.

What about wives? Are they happier when hubby is thinner? Actually, no. Wives are also more satisfied when they’re thinner than their husbands, the study showed.

But the study’s lead author says women don’t have to be thin in absolute terms to have a happy marriage – just thinner than their hubbies.

“There’s a lot of pressure on women in our society to achieve an often unreachably small weight,” study author Andrea Meltzer, a doctoral candidate at the University of Tennessee, told ABC News. “The great take-home message from our study is that women of any size can be happy in their relationships with the right partner. It’s relative weight that matters, not absolute weight.”

For the four-year study, Meltzer and her colleagues studied 169 newlywed couples, mostly Caucasian and all age 35 or younger. The researchers found that husbands were more satisfied initially when their wives had a lower body mass index (BMI). The wives who had a lower BMI became more satisfied over time.

Meltzer told CBS News that there is likely an evolutionary basis to men’s initial satisfaction with a relatively thin partner – because women with a lower BMI may be more likely to be fertile than women with higher BMIs.

But why would wives be more satisfied when their husbands’ BMIs are higher? Meltzer hypothesizes they’re more satisfied because their husbands are.
The study was published in the July issue of Social Psychological and Personality Science

Arnold Revising Divorce Documents!

Who doesn’t read documents!?!?!? Legal 101… DON’T sign anything you didn’t read.

Arnold Schwarzenegger will file a revised response to Maria Shriver‘s divorce petition today … and this one won’t ask the judge to deny her spousal support.

TMZ broke the story … Arnold filed docs earlier this week that not only sought to deny Maria support … he also asked the judge to force Maria to pay her own lawyer’s fees.  That seemed pretty audacious, considering the reason Maria was driven to divorce was because of Arnold’s misdeeds.
 
But sources connected with Arnold tell TMZ  … although he signed the divorce docs he never read them, partly because he was dealing with a family medical crisis — Christopher’s boogie boarding accident … and partly because he relied on his lawyer.

The unanswered question … Why was Arnold’s response filed this week — when Maria was preoccupied with taking care of her injured son?

We’re told Arnold’s initial response papers triggered a genuine conflict in the divorce.  Hopefully, the revised papers will make things right.

Amy Winehouse Still Unexplained

This is sad, but it didn’t shock me. Apparently her mother said it wasn’t a surprise to her either! That’s crazy!

Police issued a statement, saying, “At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained and there have been no arrests in connection with the incident.”

TMZ reported yesterday …  a source connected with the death investigation told us police were “operating under the suspicion” it was an overdose.

Scotland Yard also said, “Police were called by London Ambulance Service to a house in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05 hours on Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.”

And as we reported yesterday, we were told when paramedics arrived there were “signs of life,” though we did not have specifics.

Now the post-mortem is scheduled for Monday morning.

Planking Among Other Trends

Teapotting?!? Stupid!

This is just getting ridiculous!

First we told you about Planking back in May, and the unfortunate deaths which resulted by a few stunts going wrong.

Then came Owling earlier this month, which as the name suggests, includes people posing as owls.

Then came Cone-ing, which is just a waste of food, which consists of people ordering icecream cones and then picking them up by the icecream part instead of the cone.

Now there are a few more ridiculous wacky fads hitting the internet, which include Balling, Pillaring, Tea-potting, and Toothpicking!

And yes, they’re just like their names suggest — posing like a ball, standing like a pillar, posing like a tea-pot and standing on your head like a toothpick.

After filing for divorce from Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez has reportedly taken off to Miami to spend some time – and her upcoming 42nd birthday on July 25th – in Miami, at the condo she owns. And sources close to the singer have revealed that she’s planning a quiet party at Loren Ridinger‘s mansion, with close friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes expected to be in attendance!

The insider explains:

“She was with who looked to be a few family members and some friends.”

Good! She deserves to get away for some serious R&R for her special day after the month that she’s had!

Oprah’s Struggling?

This is surprising… Oprah is or at least was, such a powerhouse!

First, her network OWN hasn’t had the best ratings ever. The word commonly used with it is “lackluster,” and that’s a shame. We really want the network to be a success.

Now, we’re hearing that her magazine O is struggling with finding ads. And we’re talking a significant 31.4% drop. That’s not good at all.

According to the Media Industry Newsletter, the magazine world as a whole has been confronted with a 7 percent ad drop for all monthlies. O – Hearst’s second-most profitable title behind Cosmopolitan – is down 31.4 percent, dropping 81.4 ad pages in August.

Mags like Vogue have had a bit of a recharge in ads lately, so we’re not sure that the state of “what’s going on in in the women’s lifestyle category” is a real explanation, as a spokesperson for Oprah‘s mag tried to hand out.

Maybe there needs to be a shake up, a reinvention of content? Do what it takes to get back on top, Oprah!

Dancing With The Stars! Real Stars!

It’s about time! This show actually needs real stars! Most of the time I’m wondering who’s the celebrity and who’s the professional dancer!

Say goodbye to the likes of Ralph Macchio and Kendra Wilkinson on “Dancing with the Stars” … TMZ has learned producers are on the hunt for more “high profile” celebs next season … in the hopes of cutting down on the gimmicky stars they’ve booked in the past.

Sources connected to the show tell TMZ … producers are under direct orders to find “more high profile” people than in the past seasons … after booking a string of D-listers like The Situation, Kate Gosselin, Audrina Patridge, Jake Pavelka and Holly Madison.

In order to lock down the BIG names, we’re told producers are offering A-listers complete control over their rehearsal schedule — telling them there’s NO minimum rehearsal requirements … and they can practice as little or as much as they want.

Celebs will also have final say on music selections and costume design … including colors, cuts and styles.

So far, no word if producers have signed any of the “high profile” people in their crosshairs.

Morning BOUNCE Buzz

West patrol members responded to an unknown complaint at the Clayton Park Shopping Plaza on Lacewood drive last night.

A vehicle with 2 females were being followed by a vehicle with 4 men

The women saw a group of taxi drivers parked at the Clayton Park Shopping Centre and asked for their help. 

The taxi drivers confronted the men in the vehicle and during it one of the taxi drivers was stab in the chest and almost run over by the suspects when they took off. 

The taxi driver was taken to hospital and his injuries are not life threatening.

Police have 2 adult and 2 male youths in custody and investigation is ongoing

 

The city welcomed the Halifax Pride parade as tens of thousands of people took in the parade on the weekend
