My girlfriend and I were discussing the names of our future children, and she wants to give them hyphenated versions of both our last names.
This is clearly the progressive option, but as I am the only male in my family, it will eliminate my family name.
I might also add that our names sound ridiculous placed back-to-back.
How can I appear to be a modern equality-minded man while also ensuring that my lineage alone is stamped on our children’s birth certificates?

well what I would do is sit down with her and all the names you’ve come up with and write them out and the say them out loud. That’s what my fiance and I did with both our kids cause some of them sounded good but look ridiculous on paper and at that point we agreed that kids are cruel as it is and we should’t give them any admonition, lol
She sounds like trouble, remember the kids carry these names for life, not you… Tell her she’s not trendy, she’s cruel.

Anyway, if it’s that big of a deal, talk to them when they’re older and get them to change their names, geez.
